Using Scale in Design
Scale refers to the relative size of one element compared to another. Changing scale creates visual hierarchy, adding drama and guiding the viewer's eye.
Scale is the relative size of elements within a composition. It is the most direct way to tell a user what is important. Humans are wired to notice big things first.
If every element on a page is the same size, the design feels flat. The user won't know where to look. By making the headline massive and the copyright text tiny, we instantly create hierarchy. We use scale to create drama—pairing a huge, bold letterform with a tiny, delicate image creates a contrast that is visually arresting and modern.
